Another man being electronically monitored with an ankle bracelet was murdered Thursday night.

He has been identified as 19-year-old Clarence Coakley Jr.

Coakley was killed Wednesday just before 10:00 p.m. in Masons Addition.

The victim’s aunt, who spoke to the Bahama Journal, yesterday before going to the morgue with other family members to identify Coakley’s body said he did not bother anyone and was often blamed for trouble in the area.

The family member said he had just started working with his father two weeks ago in construction to “keep busy.”

She also told us he had been on bail for grievous harm.

Police sources have confirmed that Coakley was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet at the time of his death and was scheduled to return to court next month.

Based on the information police have released, it was just shortly after 9:30 p.m., when they received a report of gunshots being fired through Saxon’s Way, Masons Addition.

On the scene, they met Coakley’s bullet riddled body behind a home only, a stone’s throw away from where he lived.

Preliminary information further indicates that Coakley was sitting behind the house when a gunman approached him and shot him to the head before fleeing on foot.

Residents in the area told the Journal that despite this incident the area is safe.

“I have lived here since 1963 and nothing like this has ever happened,” Silvier Fortune said yesterday.

“I feel safe. We see the police all the time. I never have a problem through here and I have lived here most of my life.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said Masons Addition gets “a bad rap” for no reason.

“People think this is a war, gang banging zone and it’s not,” she said.

“I have lived through here for 17 years and I don’t remember any murders. This is a safe area. Now I’m not saying there can’t be improvements but generally people walk up and down through here all day and nothing happens to them.”

Police said based on their preliminary investigations, they are confident that they will make an arrest in this matter soon.

Coakley’s murder brought the country’s homicide up to 43 for the year, according to Journal statistics.

At this same point last year, only 38 murders were recorded.
