The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) had a weekend of celebrations in honor of the
party’s second anniversary of governance.
The celebrations kicked off on Saturday (September 16th ) with a breakfast at the party’s
headquarters on Farrington Road followed by a grill and chill.
On Sunday in a day of gratitude and reflection, PLP’s led by party leader Prime
Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Chester Cooper, other cabinet ministers along
with dozens of party supporters gathered at Mount Tabor Church in Pinewood
Gardens for a service of thanksgiving and fellowship.
Commemorating the occasion PLP Secretary General, Barbara Cartwright
highlighted some of the party’s wins since coming into office. She said, “Some of
the government’s successful accomplishments are reducing VAT, increasing
minimum wage which impacts approximately 16,000 workers, record breaking
tourism levels by more than 30% of our previous records; building affordable
homes, completion of 22 union contracts, expansion of social services and our
agricultural programs, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.”
Mrs. Cartwright went on to say that while there is more work to be done she is
confident that under the leadership of Prime Minister Davis and Deputy Prime
Minister Cooper the PLP administration will continue to “uplift and empower all
Bahamians.”
Prime Minister Davis not only reflected on his administration’s wins but also
highlighted what he hopes the road ahead will look like, saying, “When it comes to
the development of our nation we are not interested in excuses. We want to see
more income equality, peaceful communities, food security, improved public
healthcare, and more opportunities for Bahamians to own homes and successful
businesses.
“The desire to see progress on these national issues and challenges is what inspired
me to enter politics in the first place, and continues to motivate me to this day.

“Two years ago, when the PLP came into office, we said that we were not here to
maintain the status quo. We were here to lay the foundation for big changes as we
take steps toward a fairer and more prosperous society for all Bahamians.”
Prime Minister Davis ended by assuring that the way forward is promising and
although it may have its challenges, the PLP government will never stop fighting
on behalf of the Bahamian people.
