The Cabinet has approved a medical marijuana committee, although the names of the individuals have not been announced.
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said, “we now have to write the various different entities – Chamber of Commerce, University of The Bahamas, COBUS (SGA), business leagues. There are different entities so that they can send their representative inclusive of the Christian Council.”
Outspoken Baptist Bishop Simeon Hall, who served on the CARICOM Comissionfor marijuana will play an active role on the marijuana committee.
The Prime Minister said the other prospective members should receive a letter within the next week or two.
He said, “afterwards, they will be provided with the CARICOM report, and we hope that they would be able to complete their work in 3-4 months as we have said.”
The committee will host town meetings and focus groups on the topical issue, that has gotten an increasing number of Bahamians touting its economic and medicinal benefits.
The Prime Minister has said that once the public’s position is determined, the matter will be brought to parliament for debate and a decision made on the way forward.
