The Central Detective Unit (CDU) has arrested close to 40 people for various offences, chief among them, armed robbery.
‘Operation Clutch,’ which began last Thursday and lasted until Saturday, targeted problem locations and persons engaged in criminal activity, including rape, armed robberies, shootings, stolen vehicle, and drugs.
During the operation police arrested 13 people for questioning in reference to armed robbery and 12 in reference to possession of an unlicenced firearm. They also arrested four people for outstanding criminal warrants and three for possession of dangerous drugs.
There were two other arrests for unlawfully carrying arms and an arrest for causing harm and three other arrests for stealing related crimes.
Police credited the success of this operation to excellent teamwork; intelligence led policing, good execution of a policing plan and support from members of the public.
