Trevor Cooper, a 21-year-old man, was charged before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt for the Monday February 13th, 2017 murder of Frederick Ferguson.

The deceased was shot sometime that morning during an altercation at a business establishment on West Bay Street.

Police officials say the victim was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ferguson became the country’s seventh murder victim in a four-day period.

Cooper’s father sat two rows behind him as the magistrate read his charges.

He was informed that because of the nature of the charge, he would not be required to enter a plea and would not be granted bail.

Aside from this, Cooper was further charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was reportedly found with four rounds of ammunition.

Before Cooper was escorted to prison, his attorney informed the magistrate that his client was assaulted while in police custody.

Cooper then showed the magistrate his wounds located on his nose.

Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt then ordered that he be allowed to see a doctor once in custody at the Bahamas Department of Corrections.

He was also allowed to speak with his father before being taken away by police.

The matter was adjourned until Cooper will return to court for a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI) on April 25th, 2017.
