Grand Bahama police opened yet another murder investigation after a man was killed during his daily beach walking exercise with his girlfriend Wednesday evening.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Grand Bahama Emerick Seymour, officers received reports of a shooting incident in the Fortune Bay Drive area shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday.
“Police responded and our initial investigations suggest that a male and his female companion were walking in the Fortune Bay Drive area doing their daily walking exercise,” ACP Seymour said. “Suddenly shots rang out and the results were that the male was shot multiple times about the body and of course the female companion was not injured in the process.
“We’ve now set about the task trying to determine who the person or persons responsible for this latest homicide are.”
ACP Seymour said police officials know who the victim is, but declined to release that information until they notify the next of kin.
He said based on preliminary investigations, there are no clues as to whether or not the shooter was driving or walking in the area when the incident occurred.
Police also did not know how they fled the scene.
“We are sending out an appeal to members of the public for any information, anyone who was in the area to give us information to find these people so we can wrap this investigation up in a short period of time,” ACP Seymour said.
According to other reports, the victim is a 47-year-old owner of a trucking company on that island.
Police officials said investigations are ongoing.
