ZNS Announcer Killed

SCOTT RICHARDSTragedy struck the Broadcasting Cooperation of the Bahamas (BCB) yesterday amid celebrations of its 80th anniversary.

Scott Richards, 48, was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Officials were prompted to the discovery shortly after 9:35 after a lifeless body was discovered about 100 feet away from a vehicle in the area of Bonefish Pond just off Cowpen Rd.

Assistant Senior Commissioner of Police Leon Bethel says police are still processing valuable information from the crime scene to determine the motive behind the murder.

“Police officers from the Carmichael Road police station were on normal mobile patrol sometime around 9:55a.m., they were checking the Bonefish Pond area when they saw a body of man about 100 feet away from a vehicle who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body,” Mr. Bethel said.

Bethel added that if the country wants to improve the current crime situation all Bahamians have to be co-operative with law enforcement officials.

“Everything what is going on in this country is affecting everyone, not just the police and any crime that happens is too much, we want to prevent the matters so that we don’t have to have grieving families,” he said.

“The Royal Bahamas Police Force has the capability of solving any matter that happens but the problem is that we are not getting the assistance we need and the Bahamian people should talk to us a bit more.”

The loss of the Gospel announcer and Host of Night Time Inspiration and Choirs of The Bahamas was greatly felt not only by his colleagues but fans as well who paid their respects on social media.

He worked at the Broadcasting Cooperation since 2001.

Investigations are expected to continue.
