Santiago Figuereo, a world-respected neurosurgeon from Miami will participate in the Grand Bahama Medical & Dental Association’s (GBMDA) 12th Annual Scientific Educational Conference.
Dr. Figuereo will be one of the international speakers.
He will talk about endoscopic cranial and spinal cases performed with the latest minimally invasive techniques, participating in the Prevention and Cure module, the 21st Century alternatives.
“I’m so pleased to be in the beautiful Bahamas. I’m looking forward to meeting my colleagues and sharing this important time of learning at the GBMDA congress,” he said.
“I want to build stronger bridges between Miami and The Bahamas on medical training and exchange of the latest technology available in my specialty.”
Dr. Figuereo is one of few neurosurgeons in Florida who is certified in Functional Neurosurgery.
The GBMDA Congress will be held from October 4 to October 6 at the Pelican Bay Resort in Lucaya.
This year’s theme is “Women’s Health, the Heart of the Matter.”
“It is more than appropriate for the changes that we have seen in the delivery of healthcare services and the new focus on women,” he said.
“Spine problems are more common in women and some brain issues like pituitary tumors that I will be speaking about are also more common in women.”
Dr. Figuereo will stress that it is possible for patients to live normal lives even though they need to be treated for a delicate condition such a brain or spine surgery.
“Women nowadays are managing multiple roles as professionals, mothers and the heart of their families; society needs them back sooner in a less traumatic experience for themselves,” he said.
