A Grand Bahama woman drowned on Easter Sunday after the car she was riding in fell overboard into a canal.
Authorities in the second city said the woman’s body was pulled from the water at 3:00 a.m.
The Police Emergency Room got a call at 2:36 a.m. informing them of the incident on Port of Call Drive.
The people who were in the car when it fell overboard were trapped inside.
Police said a 31-year-old woman managed to escape from the vehicle, but a second woman in her mid-twenties drowned.
Police officers and a concerned citizen pulled the victim’s body from the water and a medical doctor pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the red Ford Explorer “was not certain of her position with respect to the canal and attempted to negotiate a turn, resulting in the vehicle going overboard.”
