Over 100 inner city children got a chance to enjoy the sights and sounds of Emanji Circus Arts Thursday afternoon.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. Daniel Johnson was responsible for the special outing.
After visiting the local circus himself, Dr. Johnson orchestrated a special field trip for children participating in various Urban Renewal 2.0 programmes throughout New Providence.
Bus loads of excited children poured into The National Centre for the Performing Arts, Shirley Street yesterday.
It was the first time that many of them got the opportunity to experience a live circus, and their reactions throughout the entire performance was proof that they were thrilled and mesmerised by the experience.
Director of Emanji Circus Arts Jarvis Grant said the special visit provided the youngsters with the opportunity to travel to a whole new world through entertainment.
“This show has shown these kids today that there is a different side to life. We have a lot of things going on in our country right now, so this shows them that there are still activities, clean and enjoyable activities that can thrill them and make them laugh,” he said.
“This show is amazing, and I am so happy I got a chance to come and watch. The acrobats and other performers did things today that I have never seen before. This was a real treat for me this summer,” Aja Gibson said.
Emanji Circus Arts, comprised of 30 Bahamian circus performers, has been in existence for three years now.
Mr. Grant admits that producing the show has not been an easy task.
“It’s not easy at all, it’s very hard. But we’ve managed to be able to cut our costs over the years and it’s really just been one step at a time. And as we make one step at a time we have been able to touch lives in our very own way. I’m pleased with that,” he said.
Emanji Circus Arts is expected to host four more shows.
The first two of the remaining four performances will take place at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. today.
The final two performances will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
