Unprepared Grave at Woodlawn Upsets Family

Family members on Monday expressed that they received poor service from the proprietors at Woodlawn Gardens Cemetery following a lack of respect and disorganization upon the burial of a relative.

Deceased Leona Brown was scheduled to be buried last Saturday however, according to brown’s daughter Anna-Mae Russell, upon the family’s arrival to the cemetery, the plot was not ready and there was no explanation.

“When they opened the grave the grave had a lot of water in it and that was not acceptable because all of these things were supposed to be prepared before we got here,” she said.

“We then had to go back to the funeral home, take my mom back and now on this particular day we came back to the graveyard on Monday morning and still the grave was not properly done and it was not acceptable to us to bury our mom.”

Family members are asking that their cries be heard as the incident was like burying their mother twice and they would hate for it to happen to any other family.

One family member said, “I am very saddened with the company, having paid all that we had to pay and no one came responsible and in charge to give us a reason why.”

Another family member said, “It’s just been total and utter disrespect to our family, and things like this should not be happening. This is their business. They should take pride and nobody had the respect or courtesy or decency.”

The Brown family was eventually able to bury their loved one on Monday morning, but they are still pleading with those in charge to take responsibility for their actions.

Many attempts were made to contact a representative from Woodlawn but those attempts were unsuccessful.
