Tropical Storm Alberto – the first tropical storm of the season – drenched New Providence yesterday.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the storm, which first developed off the South Carolina coast, has weakened a little.
The storm is moving towards the west-southwest near six miles per hour, but forecasters say it is expected to slow down and move little through today.
A north-eastward acceleration is anticipated tonight and tomorrow.
On this track, the centre of Alberto is forecast to remain offshore of the Carolina and Georgia coasts.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 mph with higher gusts.
The hurricane season doesn’t begin until June 1.
