A multi-agency search and rescue continued yesterday for three people who went missing after their boat capsized in waters off Exuma on Friday.
According to reports, around 4:20 p.m. a 15-foot Boston Whaler left Williams Town, Exuma en route to Long Island with 23-year-old Lakera Adderley, 22-year-old Andy Adderley, 21-year-old Shaquille Adderley and five-year-old Keanne Demeritte on board.
All of the passengers are residents of Glintons, Long Island.
About 15 minutes into the trip, the boat reportedly hit a wave, causing it to capsize, throwing the passengers overboard.
Clinging to the capsized boat off Pigeon Cay, Shaquille Adderley was rescued by a passing boater around 8:00 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to Long Island.
Up to print time, the other three passengers had still not been located.
According to a family member, who wished to remain anonymous, authorities in Exuma were called immediately on Friday afternoon and all into the night to report the matter.
However, the relative claims those authorities failed to respond and did not take the repeated requests seriously until the family members called several senior officers in New Providence.
The police, defense force, BASRA and U.S. Coast Guard along with residents have launched a vigorous search and rescue for the missing persons.
