It was just after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday when a concerned neighbour observed two men who at the time were driving a rental car with the license plate covered at her neighbor’s apartment complex.
The woman told The Journal that she was suspicious of the activity and alerted the police who responded to the scene swiftly.
Another eye witness on the scene said they saw the assailants attempted to flee the area on foot in a western direction when the police arrived.
The neighbour added that an officer then opened fire hitting one of the suspects three times, the other suspect escaped in nearby bushes.
A number of photos surfaced on social media sites showing the scene blocked off with police tape and officers combing for clues.
According to several residents who did not wish to me named or cited, the area has been plagued with numerous house breakings and armed robberies for the past few years.
Up to press time police officials could not be reached for official comment on the matter, but Police Superintendent Stephen Dean did confirm that someone was shot.
