A 22-year old man of Lower Bogue, Eleuthera is in custody assisting police in connection with a burglary and attempted sexual assault of a female that occurred in Upper Bogue, Eleuthera on Tuesday.
According to reports, shortly after 4:00 a.m., a man armed with a knife broke into the female’s residence in Upper Bogue and attempted to sexually molest her.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
Residents from Upper Bogue called into the Bahama Journal early Wednesday after hearing the story air on Love97 News at 8:00 a.m.
All of them, who wished to remain anonymous, said the area is now plagued with a lot of criminal activity.
In fact, one of the residents who spoke to the Journal said over the past week there have been several burglaries.
While they say the police are doing a good job in the area, they are requesting more police presence overall throughout the entire island.
“Too much petty crimes are happening here,” one man said.
“The police are doing a good job but we need more of them. The islands always get the short end of the stick because crimes are at lower levels but the islands are also breeding grounds for criminals because they know there aren’t many police.”
Investigations are ongoing into the matter.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this or any of any crime to contact them at 919 or at 328-TIPS (New Providence) or 300-8476 (Family Islands).
