Sentencing Expected Today In McCartney Murder Case

Thorne Edwards and Lyndera Curry who were both convicted of the murder of prominent businessman Kurt McCartney back in October of 2013 will return to court today for sentencing.

During Tuesday morning’s proceedings before Senior Justice Stephen Isaacs, the sentencing was adjourned due to the absence of Edwards’ lawyer.

Edwards was convicted of murder and was found guilty of armed robbery on a majority verdict of 9-3.

However, Curry was acquitted of murder but found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter by 11-1.

It is alleged that Edwards shot McCartney in the face after he became involved in an argument between Curry and the victim in the Gambier area.

Brother of the victim and Democratic National Alliance Leader Branville McCartney was in court to await the sentencing of both individuals as well.

Edwards may face the death penalty.
