Police were yesterday hunting for two men who were involved in two separate robberies at two Scotiabank locations.
According to Superintendent of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Paul Rolle, the first incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Scotiabank’s East Street and Soldier Road location.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an alleged armed robbery at the Scotiabank branch at East Street and Soldier Road and we will be making a fuller statement later as we are able to make a full determination as to exactly what happened,” he told the Bahama Journal.
Officials said a lone gunman walked into the bank, demanded cash and escaped.
However, Mr. Rolle could not say whether the bandit fled on foot and escaped in a vehicle.
Scotiabank’s Senior Manager of Marketing and PR Leah Davis confirmed that the incident was isolated to one teller and no one was injured.
“The amount of money stolen is unknown at this time and the matter is under active police investigation,” she said in a terse statement.
Just 30 minutes later, a Scotiabank customer at the bank’s Wulff Road and Jerome Avenue location was held up by a lone gunman.
Mr. Rolle explained that this one was more dramatic.
“A customer had pulled up in his vehicle and as he was about to enter the bank he was accosted by a lone male who produced a hand gun and took his Honda vehicle from him,” the superintendent said.
“As the male attempted to drive off he collided into the sidewalk just near to Wulff Road. He exited the vehicle and ran into the Johnson Alley area. We have a team now trying to locate him.”
Mr. Rolle said officials will update reporters as soon as more information becomes available.
Investigations are ongoing.
