Police are questioning officials from a local elementary school regarding the death of a three-year-old who drowned at Montagu Beach on Thursday.
Head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle confirmed that several people were being questioned but that it was too early to say whether charges would be filed.
“We are still in the preliminary stages so I can’t reveal much but we are talking to several people,” he said.
According to police, officers responded to the scene where an elementary school was having a picnic.
When the officers arrived they met the boy unresponsive in the water.
The boy was attended to by EMS personnel and later transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he died.
An autopsy is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
Police said they will not release the name of that school until they get further in their investigations.
