Former Chairman of the Water and Sewage Corporation, Bradley Roberts said he’s still concerned about operations at the state-run water company.
Mr. Roberts resigned effective immediately from the company on November 5.
However, he told the Bahama Journal recently that he has many concerns about the corporation, one of them being how it is funded.
“There are concerns for the corporation that have to be dealt with,” he told reporters recently.
“There is no secret that the corporation is heavily funded by the treasury of the country and the international agencies have warned successive governments, like in the case of Bahamasair, that it needs to reduce the contribution it makes to those corporations including the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas.”
He also confirmed again to reporters that his resignation came because he felt that it was “time to move on.”
“I have a lot on my plate in terms of my involvement in the private sector to keep me busy and I still have responsibility for the party as national chairman until a convention is held,” Mr. Roberts said.
“We shall be moving next year to having a series of mini conventions in the Family Islands as well as addressing concerns of the party here in New Providence so I have a lot to do. There was no conflict of interest with holding the corporation chairman post at all with my private interests. Now, I have just freed up a lot more time to focus on what it is that I need to do.”
Free National Movement (FNM) Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis said Mr. Robert’s resignation could be the signal that things are not well in the PLP.
“If the chairman has resigned that is a definite big blow for them since Mr. Roberts, who is so high in the party, resigned,” he said in a party release last week.
“There must be some conflict that needs some further investigation, there must be some internal issues, some problems must be plaguing the PLP – who is in charge of this country? It needs further investigation as to why he would resign. Did he resign or was he fired? There needs to be some answers.”
Mr. Roberts was appointed following the 2012 General Elections.
