After spending the long holiday weekend in police custody, noted attorney Maurice Glinton, QC, appeared before justices of the Court of Appeal (COA) on Tuesday.
Mr. Glinton, who was arrested after the justices issued a bench warrant for his arrest for his failure to appear before the court on a charge of contempt, is being represented by a six-member legal team headed by Wayne Munroe, QC.
He was brought into the courthouse through the underground garage and shielded from public view.
In a brief session on Tuesday morning, COA President Justice Anita Allen informed that there were two matters concerning Mr. Glinton – firstly, his warrant of arrest and secondly his contempt of court charge.
However, Mr. Munroe told the court that he was unaware of the contempt of court charge and that he was only prepared for summary proceedings as they relate to the warrant of arrest.
Given this revelation, it was agreed that both Mr. Glinton’s legal team and the crown be allowed time to review submissions related to both matters.
Mr. Glinton’s arrest was subsequently spent and the matter was adjourned to Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
