Tragedy struck workers at the Airport Gateway Project early Wednesday after a worker was killed after being electrocuted.
Officials at the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) said in a press release that it was around 9:30 a.m. when a dump truck working on the project came into contact with one of BEC’s 11,000 volt overhead lines.
As a result of the contact, BEC said it is believed, that the employee who was standing adjacent to the dump truck received an electrical shock and could not be revived.
Journal sources identified the victim as Courtney Collie, a Jamaican in his mid 40s and was a road paver with EK Development.
Grief stricken workers were sent off the work site early today as they mourn their loss.
It was just a few months ago that another worker on this project died after he was crushed by a Mac truck.
As the matter is under police investigation, BEC said it will not release any further details regarding this incident and expressed its condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the employee.
