Police officials are on the hunt for the man behind an early morning shooting that took the life of seven-year Cameron Cooper and left another male wounded. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander, the incident stemmed from a drug fight on Pipe Lane, just off Palm Beach Street after 7 am on Tuesday morning. It is reported that during the altercation, one of the men pulled out a firearm releasing several shots, which resulted in the tragedy.
The wounded man was rushed to the hospital shortly after the incident, with no word on his condition.
Young Cameron was a second-grade student at Columbus Primary School. Yesterday his classmates wrote notes and dedicated to him. There were messages like “I love you Cameron”, “We miss you”, and “On June 5th, we lost our friend”.
Sadly, there was another of a stick person drawing in a box, illustrating a young boy in a coffin.
Cameron’s homeroom teacher says that “ he was no trouble at all. He was one of those students that you never had to speak to twice and he was always a sweet and humble soul. He played no sports, but always participated in the school’s sports day and was loved by all of his classmates.”
Principal Patricia Chisolm says Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling visited the primary school to extend her condolences. Also, various agencies are also assisting with the grieving process.
