Political Protest In Rawson Square

A demonstration was held in Rawson Square this morning on the heels of the 2016 budget communication.

The protest was led by S. Ali Mcintosh servant leader of the Bahamas Constitution Party, as well as officials from the Democratic National Alliance.

This was in response to an alleged letter that detailed an exorbitant amount of concessions proposed by the CCA to our government in their negotiations for the re-opening of Baha-Mar.

“We heard that a letter came from the XM bank of china to the government concerning a very ferocious and repugnant deal to the Bahamas”

“ Obviously you know this deal would have included 30 years exclusivity in terms of casino licenses, 30 years exempt from VAT tax and the most repugnant being 500 citizenships for the Chinese,” said Ms. Mcintosh

Mcintosh says that the gathering was necessary due to the government’s enthusiasm towards addressing the situation in the house today and if these demands hold true are completely against the wishes of the Bahamian people.

“What we are protesting is the government should not consider this deal, we were making sure as we protest that they do not put that on the table of the house because that is against the people”

“We’ve learned that the governments Bahamas and China have signed bi-lateral agreements and of those agreements say that the government must protect the investment of china in the country so if that is true the government of the Bahamas has to make that deal or they will sue us”

“So we must say no we must protest, we must show our faces to represent thousands of Bahamians who can’t speak for themselves because they can’t give away this country, they can’t sell it for cheap and this deal is unacceptable for Bahamians,” Ms. Mcintosh said.

She added that ultimately it is the role of the government to be completely forthcoming in revealing the true details of this agreement and that the people must not be kept in the dark.

“We demand full disclosure of this deal, that the Bahamian people are being made aware of everything that is being negotiated on their behalf , we don’t want to know when it is finished, we want to know before it I done and made available not only in the House but to the public”.

The Prime Minister announced yesterday that a deal has been reached to continue the completion Baha-Mar but the terms were not disclosed.
