A man who attempted to knock down a police officer with a vehicle is detained in hospital after he was shot on Tuesday, police have said.
Reports are that shortly before 1:00p.m., a police officer was on duty at Paradise Island, when a man driving a vehicle aroused his suspicion.
The officer then signaled to the man to stop his vehicle to conduct a search for dangerous drugs and firearms.
The officer then asked the man exit the vehicle but the man refused to do so.
The man then reversed his vehicle a few feet and then drove at the officer with a high rate of speed.
The officer in fear of his life discharged his police service handgun and shot the driver.
The man received a minor gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
