Top police officials were locked away Friday trying to determine why a young man would kill a woman, wound several officers and then turn the gun on himself.
Police said it was around 12:30 a.m. Friday when gunshots rang out in the Cox Way neighbourhood.
Fighting to stay alive was a 33-year-old woman, who had been shot to the upper body.
Family members have since identified the victim as Casey Adderley.
When investigating officers arrived on the scene and confronted the man accused of pulling the trigger, the 22-year-old reportedly opened fire, shooting three officers.
They, along with the woman, were taken to hospital.
While the officers were treated and discharged soon after, the woman was not so lucky.
She died in hospital. She is the country’s 75th homicide victim this year.
Additional officers called to the scene of the crime found the suspect with a fatal bullet wound to the head.
He has since been identified as Beron Carroll.
Police say the two victims are not related.
