A daring daylight robbery turned deadly yesterday as Grand Bahama police shot and killed one of the suspects as he attempted to flee the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that shortly after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Grand Bahama police received information that a business establishment in the Circle Mall, West Atlantic Drive was being robbed by two masked men.
Police responded and on arrival observed the armed culprits attempting to flee the scene.
One of the men ran to the rear of the establishment, while the other man fired shots at police as he got into a waiting vehicle.
Police returned fire and the suspects’ vehicle crashed.
Upon checking the vehicle, the police found one of the fleeing suspects with gunshot injuries.
An Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team responded to the scene and rendered assistance to the injured suspect, who died a short time later.
Police continue to search for the driver who evaded police.
Meantime, while checking the suspects’ vehicle, police uncovered an illegal pistol and ammunition and a quantity of jewelry, believed to be the property of the establishment.
Active police investigations continue.

Search efforts continue for a man believed to have driven off the eastern end of the Potter’s Cay Dock Tuesday evening.
Police describe the vehicle as a silver 1998 Nissan Sunny.
Authorities said the driver may have been at Potters Cay Dock just after Tuesday evening to collect a family member when it is believed that the incident occurred.
Police along with the personnel from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) and Bahamas Dive conducted a search of the area for the victim; however, the searched proved fruitless.
