Police Investigate Weekend Shooting

A shooting incident has left one man detained in hospital.

According to police reports, on Saturday, shortly before 3:00 a.m. a man was walking in the area of Cockburn and Market Streets when he was shot to the back.

At last report the victim was listed in stable condition.

As investigations continue, officers are appealing to the general public to contact or police at 919 or crime stoppers at 328-TIPS with any information that can assist in solving the crime.

Police Shoot Burglary Suspect

A suspect attempting to break into a shop on Saturday morning was shot by a police officer.

According to reports the man attempted to enter a building located on East Street South shortly after 9:30 a.m.

The victim was transported to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

Investigations are on-going.

In other crime related news:

Police officers are also investigating an armed robbery that ended with an exchange of gun fire.

According to police reports, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Friday officers were alerted to an armed robbery in progress at a business establishment on Faith Avenue and St. Vincent Road.

When police arrived on the scene they saw two armed men exiting the business establishment.

The suspects fired several shots towards the officers and fled the scene on foot.

Investigations into that matter continue.

Mobile division officers seized a high powered weapon on Saturday but no arrests were made.

According to reports, shortly after 7:00 p.m. officers acting on intelligence went to the St. Andrews Beach Estates area, where they uncovered a high-powered assault rifle underneath a tree.

On Friday, two men ages 22 and 21 are in custody after police seized an illegal handgun.

According to reports on Friday, shortly after 10:00 p.m. Mobile Division officers acting on intelligence conducted a search of the two suspects at Dunmore Street and found a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition in their possession.

The suspects are expected to appear in court this week to be formally charged.
