Police are investigating another apparent drowning in the capital after police found the body of a woman floating face down in waters near the southern end of Potter’s Cay Dock around 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning.
On the scene was Press Liaison Officer Superintendent Stephen Dean who said the identity of the female is unknown but significant leads are being made.
“Officers on arrival met the body of a female floating in waters between two boats,” he said.
“The body was retrieved from the waters taken to shore and was pronounced dead by EMS personnel. We believe that very shortly we should be able to determine who the female is. There is no visible sign of injury so we’re just treating it as a death that we are investigating at this point.”
Family members at the scene could be seen trying to console a woman who was visibly distraught and claimed that the victim is her daughter.
The upset family member also appeared to have fainted at the scene.
A woman who wanted to remain anonymous identified the victim as Beryl Duncombe, a straw vendor.
“She was a very nice lady and didn’t bother anybody,” said the witness.
Fisherman Darren Higgs said police used his dinghy to transport the body to land and that he assisted police with retrieving the female from the water.
This is the second drowning in less than two months at Potter’s Cay.
In March, it is alleged that a man drowned at Potter’s Cay while diving for conch.
