National Flag Relay Kicked Off

The National Flag is on the way to the capital for the country’s 50th Independence in the Golden Jubilee Flag relay.

As Bahamians continue to gear up for the country’s 50th Anniversary of Indepenence, The Golden Jubilee Flag relay began on Sunday, May 21st in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera.

The island represents the first to raise the national flag in a relay that will allow one flag to travel throughout the family islands until it reaches New Providence on July 9th.

Bahamians flocking Clifford Park on July 9th for celebrations the black, gold and aquamarine flag hoisted in time for the 50th Independence Celebrations, Commemorating Independence Day, July 10.

Sunday’s flag raising ceremony took place at the Governor’s Harbour International Airport.

Central Eleuthera Family Island Administrator Earl Campbell opened the ceremony, and the flag was blessed by Reverends Orlando Dean and Martin Gaitor.

The flag was hoisted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Students of James Cistern Primary School and Central Eleuthera High School recited the Bahamian Pledge of allegiance.
