Two men are dead following the New Year’s Day holiday after being shot in two separate incidents.
The first murder of 2014 was recorded through Hospital Lane after a man was shot to death just after 2:00 a.m.
According to police, the man was sitting in a vehicle in the area when a man armed with a handgun approached him and shot him several times before fleeing on foot.
The victim was transported in a private vehicle to the hospital where he died.
Hours later, police found themselves in the Pinewood area investigating another homicide.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:20 p.m. in Buttonwood Street.
Assistant of Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson briefed reporters on the scene, which was lined with onlookers.
“Officers discovered a male who was suffering from apparent gunshot injuries and a second male who was suffering from gunshot wounds to the leg. Police are working with preliminary information at this very early stage. We know that the deceased was standing along with the man who was shot in the legs when a vehicle pulled up and the occupants came out and opened fire which resulted in this man being deceased,” he said.
New Years Eve saw 2013’s last homicide hours earlier.
Just before before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, police received a report that a man was shot in the Ida Street area multiple times.
Police sources told the Bahama Journal that he was shot several times in the head.
The victim was transported to hospital via ambulance where he died.
Police are investigating and are appealing to members of the public who can assist with their investigations to call them at 919 or CrimeStoppers at 328-TIPS.
These murders follow the one early Tuesday morning where police found the body of a man shot multiple times to the upper body in bushes adjacent to the Yellow Elder Primary School just off Blue Hill Road.
