Ninety-four Haitian migrants were apprehended Tuesday afternoon by Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship Yellow Elder.
This event took place several hours after Defence Force Marines apprehended 16 Haitian migrants, who made it ashore shortly before 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning after grounding their sailing sloop in waters off southern New Providence.
The migrants – 81 men, 12 women and 1 child – associated with the this latest incident were passengers aboard a Haitian sloop found off Green Cay, approximately 60 miles south of New Providence.
A number of these migrants were found ashore at Green Cay by Defence Force Marines after conducting a search of the Cay.
The undocumented migrants were later transported to the Capital by HMBS Yellow Elder where they arrived shortly after 11:00 p.m. and were turned over to the Immigration officials for further processing.
The Commander Defence Force expressed his thanks to the local community of South Andros for providing valuable information which led to the apprehension of the illegal migrants.
