Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell on Monday introduced newly appointed Ambassador to the United States Dr. Eugene Newry to staff members of the Bahamas Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Newry was originally scheduled to assume the post of ambassador to the United Nations.
However, after Dr. Elliston Rahming, who had been the ambassador designate to the United States, withdrew his name from consideration and asked to be reassigned, Dr. Newry was appointed to D.C.
Dr. Rahming has since been reassigned as the new ambassador to the United Nations and was also introduced to his staff in New York.
He will continue as The Bahamas’ permanent representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).
Dr. Newry previously served as the ambassador to Haiti from 2002-2007 under the first Christie administration.
