A man who was reported missing by family members a week ago was found dead Saturday in the Clifton Pier area, the victim of an apparent suicide.
On the scene Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said it was just after 10:40 Saturday morning when officers from the Western and Airport police stations were called to find out why a suspicious looking car had been parked in the area for so long.
“Responding officers discovered that the name on the license disc appeared to be a reported missing person,” he explained. “This person was reported missing on May 25.
“Relatives went to the Nassau Street Police Station and reported that they had not seen the relative since May 22. Investigators checking the nearby bushy area discovered a male hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck.”
ACP Ferguson said police officials could not provide an approximate age for the victim as the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Police were searching a small green vehicle license plate number 265161 for clues.
“We are trying to determine exactly what happened here,” ACP Ferguson said. “It’s very early in our investigation but as we get more information we will be able to make it available to you.”
