As the Free National Movement (FNM) on Friday commemorated its first win to government 24 years ago, on August 19, 1992, the party’s leader Dr. Hubert Minnis said the party is now seeking the country’s confidence again, as he said the FNM is promising a better Bahamas.
Deliverance, transformation and real change is what the FNM promised during that time under the leadership of Mr. Hubert Ingraham, and in reflection, Dr. Minnis said the party has delivered just that.
Dr. Minnis said his party is in celebrative mode, as it reflects on its achievements which he said came about as a result of “great foresight, deliberate and careful efforts on the part of the FNM government” during three non-consecutive terms in office.
“That is why the 19th August 1992 was and continues to be ‘Deliverance Day’. Our celebration is a celebration of better governance, improved healthcare, better education, enhanced justice, greater economic opportunities, upgraded infrastructure, deepened democracy, Freedom of the airways, Family Island elected Local Government, social justice and the achievement of international respect,” Dr. Minnis explained.
“We offer a heart-felt thanks to the thousands of persons who supported and helped to bring about deliverance and transformation to our society and with God’s Grace and the support of Bahamians everywhere we promise to usher in a New and Better Bahamas,” he continued.
Dr. Minnis said the FNM has rededicated itself to the cause of building a new and better Bahamas.
We in the FNM re-dedicate ourselves to the noble and historic cause of deliverance and justice for all and pledge to once again, given the opportunity, move our beloved Bahamas ‘forward, upward, onward, together’ with new vision and a commitment,” he said.
Despite the recent infighting of his party, and the very contentious leadership race last month, Dr. Minnis said previously that his party will unite in an effort to overthrow the Progressive Liberal Party Government, thereby “creating a “better Bahamas for all”.
