Minister To Testify in Smith’s Trial

The Minister of National Security, Marvin Dames  has been ordered to appear in the Magistrates Court tomorrow afternoon at 2pm to give evidence in the bribery case of former  Member of Parliament, Frank Smith.

The Minister is expected to be examined by the prosecution and defense attorneys of his alleged  involvement in causing an investigation to be launched and charges brought against Smith, a former Chairman of the Hospitals Authority.

Smith is facing 15 charges  concerning the solicitation of $65,000 in bribes from  Barbara Hanna who he is said to  have assisted in getting a contract for the cleaning of the Princess Margaret Hospital.

He is also alleged to have attempted to extort another $5,000 from Ms. Hanna.

At the end of the trial yesterday, the prosecution failed to present certain documents to the satisfaction of the presiding Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

It is alleged that Minister Dames had certain conversations with the virtual complainant, Mrs Hanna, before  Smithwas formally charged.
