Minister for Grand Bahama Dr. Michael Darville spoke on the importance of healthy eating during Consumer Education Month last Friday.
Being held under the theme, ‘The Consumer’s Right to Healthy Food,’ Dr. Darville said it was a pleasure for him to speak on the importance of healthy living and to educate the consumer on the selection of healthy foods.
He said, “Healthy foods are essential to prevent non-communicable diseases and excessive obesity in our community, as well as protection from diseases that predispose us to hypertension and diabetes.”
The minister added that he was pleased to be with the education team from the Consumer Welfare Unit, who are leading the charge in conjunction with the Rand Memorial Hospital, as they encourage Bahamians to live a healthy lifestyle.
The Consumer Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Labour and National Insurance, Northern Bahamas, has several events planned this month.
Inspectors will visit and speak at various schools in Abaco, Bimini and Grand Bahama on the theme and officers will participate in a radio talk show, and a television programme that will air this week.
