A less than satisfactory rental facility coupled with long term renovations to its current location has left health officials with little choice but to relocate the clinic in Mangrove Cay, Andros.
According to Minister of Health Dr. Duane Sands, the plan is to follow through with that before the end of the year.
“We have agreed not to renew the lease, but to identify another temporary facility until such time as the renovations are complete. They have not yet moved because we have not yet identified nor prepared the new temporary facility,” he said.
While the current facility is admittedly not the best, Dr. Sands said at this point, no new places are in mind.
“We’re looking at Mangrove Cay, so you have to find a place from the available inventory of commercial buildings and as you can imagine there is not an unlimited supply.”
During a February tour of health facilities in Andros, officials discovered that renovations to the Mangrove Cay clinic were not progressing as quickly as they should.
Those renovations come at a cost of some $2 million.
