A 21-year-old man was on Monday arraigned for the country’s 81st murder for 2012.
Blue Hill Road South resident Dexter Rolle appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez in Court #1 for the murder of Ernest Hepburn.
Police alleged that Rolle, and another person, are responsible for the August 28 murder.
It is also alleged that on that same date, Rolle and another person, attempted to rob Hepburn with a handgun.
Hepburn, a 61-year-old Water and Sewerage Corporation retiree, was shot and killed around 1:00 p.m. as he and a friend sat outside a home through Iguana Way, Carmichael Road.
According to police reports, a robber snatched Hepburn’s gold chain off his neck before murdering him.
Rolle was not required to enter a plea to the charges and will return to court on December 6.
A voluntary bill of indictment (VBI) will be served at that time.
The VBI fast tracks the case to the Supreme Court.
Chief Magistrate Gomez denied bail and Rolle was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP) until then.
He was not represented by an attorney.
