Two Jamaican women could soon have their day in court after being picked up by authorities on two separate drug matters.
According to police, the first arrest took place around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA).
Acting on intelligence, officers searched the 30-year-old suspect, who had reportedly just arrived on a commercial airline from Panama, and found 2.4 pounds of cocaine on her.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $16,000.
Officers also seized $1,200 from the woman; money believed to be the proceeds of drugs.
The woman was taken into custody and is facing charges of importation of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply.
Half an hour later, police arrested a 51-year-old Jamaican woman at a hotel in downtown Nassau on the very same charges after Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers found an orange bag containing another 2.4 pounds of suspected cocaine in her hotel room.
At the time, officers seized $765.26, also believed to be the proceeds of dangerous drugs.
The woman was taken into custody and is too facing importation of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply charges.
The DEU have confirmed that this suspect also arrived to The Bahamas on a commercial airline from Panama
