Police in New Providence recovered several illegal firearms in separate incidents.
In the first incident, shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, Central Detective Unit officers acting on intelligence conducted a search of an abandoned building on First Street Coconut Grove, where they discovered a .9 millimeter pistol with two rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested in this incident.
In the second incident, shortly before 4 a.m., Central Detective Unit officers, acting on information, conducted a search of an adult male on Victoria Avenue and recovered a .9 millimeter pistol with three rounds of ammunition. The male was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged before court.
In the third incident, shortly after 12 a.m. on Saturday, Central Detective Unit officers, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of an area on the Jubilee Gardens Park, Jubilee Gardens, where they discovered a sawed off shotgun. No one was arrested in this incident.
In the fourth incident, shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, Central Detective Unit officers, acting on information, conducted a search of an area in the vicinity of a car wash on Miami Street where they discovered a .9 millimeter pistol. No one was arrested in this incident.
In the fifth incident, shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, Central Detective Unit officers responded to reports of gunshots in the Rupert Dean Lane area. Upon arriving to the area, the officers spotted a male armed with a firearm, who opened fire on them. The officers engaged the suspect who was able to make good his escape.
The officers recovered a .9 millimeter pistol with four rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested in this incident.
