Aside from the dancing and other musical festivities that took place during the Fox Hill Day celebrations, government officials also announced plans of an upcoming project that will greatly benefit the community.
Prime Minister Perry Christie announced the future construction of a community center in the area sponsored by the InterAmerican Development Bank that would help foster community development in that area.
“Our government is committed to serving the best interest of the people of this country, for the people of Fox Hill and that we should move on a private-public partnership to complete this community center,” Mr. Christie said.
Member of Parliament for Fox Hill Fred Mitchell spoke about the origins of the initiative and all the people involved in getting the project off the ground.
“In combination with the Ministry of National Security and the Inter-American Development Bank resources have been set aside to help us finish this community center so the work is going to be started soon to complete that process.
“George Mackey acquired the land for the community center in 1992 and he had the idea but nothing happened after the PLP lost office in ‘92.
“So when I came in 2002 we designed a new building, move the foundation so we were able to complete it but there is still a lot of infrastructural work that needs to be done.
“We think that this grant which is a significant one will allow us to build proper occupancies for the center,” Mr. Mitchell said
As far as the total cost of the grant, Mr. Mitchell said it was around $250,000.
