Homicide On Park

Police are investigating a homicide in the capital after the body of a male was found on Christie Park yesterday morning.

Police were prompted by area residents around 7:00 a.m. and upon arrival met the adult male victim who was suffering from multiple injuries to the body.

Details remain sketchy, but officials were able to confirm that the victim was a resident of the Nassau Street area.

Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander Officer In charge of the Central Detective Unit briefed the press yesterday of the discovery.

“On arrival officers met the lifeless body of an adult male who appeared to be in his late 50s suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body.

“We don’t know the motive at this time and the body has appeared to have been here overnight, we are also appealing to the general public and residents in the area who may have any information to please reach out to us so we can advance this investigation,” Mr. Fernander said.

When prompted to respond to the homicide after police experienced an entire month in July that didn’t see any murders, Mr. Fernander said he didn’t want to boast.

“I don’t want to boast about it, teamwork and the partnership with the community and members of the public who continue to be our eyes and ears,” he said.

“We also want to give God thanks for guiding us to help ensure that we make this Bahamas a much safer place and consistency is the key. So we’re just going to continue to turn up the notch just to make sure everyone is able to move around their community peacefully”.

Police are appealing to persons with information to assist them with the investigation.
