Police rushed to the scene of yet another traffic fatality in the early morning hours of the Emancipation Day holiday that claimed the life of one man.
According to police, shortly after 2:00 a.m. Monday a man was driving his Isuzu truck east along Wulff Road in the area of Collins Avenue when he struck a bicyclist.
The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
He died soon after.
The driver of the vehicle was assisting police with their investigations.
GB Pastors Die In Jet Ski Accident
Grand Bahama police are meantime investigating the apparent drowning of a 55-year-old man, reportedly a well known doctor on that island.
Reports indicate that on Saturday shortly after 2:00 p.m., there was a jet ski accident on Fortune Beach involving two males who lost control of the device.
Both males were thrown in the water, according to police, who also reported that only one of the men resurfaced.
He was later retrieved in an unconscious state and CPR was administered.
The man was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital where a doctor later pronounced him dead.
According to reports the victim is Dr. Haywood Cooper. He was also said to be a pastor with the Bahamas Faith Ministries Freeport branch.
Fishermen Arrested
Two fishermen apparently could not wait another day for the crawfish season to reopen.
Police at the Cooper’s Town Police Station along with the Department of Fisheries personnel were on a joint patrol of waters in the Fox Town and Grand Cay area around 10:00 a.m. Thursday when they arrested the pair – ages 75 and 51.
According to authorities, the Fox Town resident had 29 pounds of crawfish in their possession during the closed season.
They are expected to soon appear in court.
The crawfish season officially opened on Friday.
