An 18-year-old man and a 10th grade C I Gibson High School student were on Monday arraigned in a magistrates’ court for the murder of a Haitian man in the Palm Beach Street area two weeks ago.
Key West Street residents Bernard Taylor and his 15-year-old male accomplice were both charged in Court #9 before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on one count of murder and one count of armed robbery.
It is alleged that on Friday October 25 the two suspects, together, intentionally and by means of unlawful harm caused the death of Veronal Verona.
It is also alleged that the pair, while armed with a handgun, robbed Verona of his wallet containing $700.
They were not required to enter a plea to the charges.
Taylor was represented by attorney Geoffrey Farquharson while Ramona Farquharson-Seymour represented the high school student.
The lawyers argued in court that both of their clients were beaten by police while in custody and were refused medical attention.
Because of his age the magistrate ordered that the 15-year-old be remanded at the Simpson Penn School for Boys until the case resumes on February 5 at noon for a voluntary bill of indictment.
