Prime Minister Philip Davis on Wednesday said the groundbreaking for the
Coconut Grove Advanced Health Center represents a major comeback for the
people of Coconut Grove. The previous clinic was destroyed during Hurricane
Matthew in 2016.
“Health is an important component of our blueprint for change. Expanding health
care infrastructure, maximizing access to health services, and driving to positive
health outcomes, these are among our top priorities. In breaking ground on the
Coconut Grove Advanced Health Center, we are making progress on each of these
fronts. Accessible healthcare will soon be at your doorsteps.” Davis said.
Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Michael Darville, pointed out that for nearly
45 years, the Coconut Grove Clinic was a staple in the community “providing
essential, maternal, and child health services, general care, and health education to
all who pass through the doors.”
“Ladies and Gentlemen, once completed, this multi-million-dollar Coconut Grove
Advanced Health Center will serve as a community clinic providing primary,
secondary, and urgent care services taking some of the strains off the Princess
Margaret Hospital accident emergency department.” Dr. Darville said. “It is
designated to reduce waiting times, improve access to care, and give residents a
welcoming environment that supports prevention, early detection, and long-term
wellness, lessening the needs to seek emergency care at the Princess Margaret
Hospital.”
This new facility, which is said to take about 15 months to complete, is set to
restore vital services and uplift the lives of residents, ensuring accessible, quality
healthcare for Bahamians.
