Once again Free National Movement (FMM) Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis is calling for the resignation of Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources V. Alfred Gray and this time he says, “Gray must go now.”
The repeated call for Mr. Gray’s resignation came yesterday as officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force guarded the doors of the Ministry of Agriculture, where Dr. Minnis and other members of the FNM held a press conference and protested for Gray’s resignation.
“Based on Alfred Gray’s own admissions, there is no question of fact to be determined. There is no issue to be resolved,” said Dr. Minnis.
“There has been a clear breach of the independence of the judiciary which is enshrined and protected in our national Constitution. There is no other recourse open to the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government. There is only one result that justice, accountability and good governance demands. Gray must go! Gray must go now!”
Following allegations against Mr. Gray which claimed that he abused his ministerial power and intervened in a judicial matter, last week he asked Prime Minister Perry Christie to relieve him of his duties as minister of local government.
However, Dr. Minnis said this is not enough as he is calling for Mr. Gray to resign as minister of agriculture and marine resources.
Dr. Minnis again blamed Prime Minister Christie for allowing Mr. Gray to remain a Cabinet minister while he is being investigated for a serious matter.
“The failure of Prime Minister Christie to demand or ensure full accountability in this matter stands as an indictment of his personal dereliction of duty and lack of commitment to principle,” he said.
“In the face of a blatant assault on the independence of our judiciary, Christie has settled on a fitful attempt at an atrocious compromise, because of political concerns. He is more concerned about limiting political damage, than to protect the judiciary, the Constitution, the rule of law and The Bahamas.”
Dr. Minnis bashed the prime minister using his own words as he recently referred to his government as “unmatched.”
“That is the first time I heard the prime minister speak the truth,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Christie is the worst prime minister in history.
“He will go down in history as the worst prime minister with the worst government and his legacy will be in the archives.
This will be a twin delivery! The first baby to be delivered is Alfred Gray and after he is born completely, not half, then Deputy Prime Minister Brave Davis will be delivered. It’s a twin delivery!”
Dr. Minnis said he and members of his party will do any and everything in their power to see that Mr. Gray is relieved of all of his ministerial duties.
