A host of nation builders from across the Bahamas were honored Friday at a ceremony at government house. The 2016 investiture of the Queen’s birthday honors at Mount Fitzwilliam highlighted individuals that have made a significant impact in various sectors across the scope of the country ranging from law enforcement to religion.
The ceremony, which was highlighted with each recipient receiving a medal presented by the governor general, was not short of parliamentarians and dignitaries.
“This ceremony is a way of saying thank you for the many sacrifices you have made on behalf of others and the excellence of spirit you have displayed in your respective industry, in working to build a community and thus unite our people ”.
“Their actions have set them apart and enriched our communities across multiple sectors, they have demonstrated values that we as Bahamians hold dear, passion, civility, dedication, kindness and inspire us to be truly engaged citizens of The Bahamas, ” Ms. Pindling said.
Prime Minister Perry Christie spoke about how some of the individuals being honored not only left a lasting impression on the country but him as well.
“Steven Seymour someone who has been a long serving Police Officer, we are glad we have the opputunity to single out two police officers for the QPM, he and now Bishop Hulan Hanna”
“I remember Hulan hanna was a young boy and walked into a house on Rolle Avenue for the first time, Mr. Seymour as well and to see how they developed from young boys into distinguished law enforcement officers, it is a privilege for me on a day the nation recognizes the contributions of those that have been honored ,” Mr. Christie said.
The Queen’s Birthday Honours are recognized in Commonwealth countries to mark the reigning monarch’s birthday and grants individuals appointment into national or dynastic orders with decorations or medals.
