Political upstarts the Gatekeepers have branded themselves as a party of the people and are a group that is solely for the people.
One of its founders Public Service Union President John Pinder spoke with our news team and said the group plans to take over parliament and give the country back to the people
“Well last Thursday when the Gatekeepers had a meeting, the members signed an agreement 98% in favor what we call a political arm, so we now have a social arm, spiritual arm and now we’re in the process of establishing a political arm.
“That political arm is of the view that we have to take possession of our parliament and the cabinet to amend certain laws to cause Bahamians to benefit from our natural resources, we can’t depend on those guys there now to do it” Mr. Pinder said.
Pinder added that group came about because outcry from the Bahamian people and their demand for a political organization that truly looks out for its citizens
“We plan on becoming Gatekeepers in our country in every aspect of the word, what we said is we want to do it the right way.
“This is a people’s movement that came from the people as a result of them calling talk shows and making certain statements so we want to be guided by their process we believe every person that calls themselves a Gatekeeper (and you have persons that are FNM, PLP and DNA Gatekeepers) have the ability to determine the direction in which they think the country should go,” Mr. Pinder said.
Mr. Pinder also indicated that there are enough persons affiliated with the group to launch a full slate of candidates for the upcoming election.
While there is no leader of the group it is headed by a steering committee comprised of Pinder, veteran broadcaster Steve McKinney, pastors Jeremiah Duncombe, Patrick Paul, Glenn Rolle and Walter Hanchell, attorney Paul Moss and former FNM senator John Bostwick
