Former Free National Movement (FNM) Senator Roston H. Miller passed away on Saturday in the United States, his family has announced.
Miller was the first Free PLP candidate to run in an election after the “Dissident Eight” left the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) in 1970 and formed the Free Progressive Liberal Party.
He ran unsuccessfully in the Mangrove Cay Constituency Bye-Election in 1971 following the death of Clarence Bain.
It was that lost and the subsequent lost at the 1972 General Election that led the Free PLP and the United Bahamian Party (UBP) to come together and form the FNM.
Miller had experienced health problems in recent years.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
