Family members, who gathered on Cowpen Road yesterday, believe the body of a female found in the area is that of 24-year-old Nyoshi Adderley.
Adderley reportedly went missing on February 22 around 10:00 a.m.
Reports are that she was last seen at her home on Scott Street off Rupert Dean Lane.
Police did not confirm that the body was Adderley’s but did say that it was a female.
Head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Superintendent Paul Rolle did not confirm how the matter is going to be classified.
“Acting on information, sometime around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday officers from the Central Detective Unit visited an area off Cowpen Road,” he said.
“Upon checking the area, we found what appeared to be a makeshift grave. After digging the grave, we found the body of a human being. Now at this stage we are satisfied that it is a body of an individual and it appears to be that of a female. We have to do the requisite forensic analysis to confirm who this person is and the sex.”
Supt. Rolle also confirmed that the body was naked.
The Bahama Journal understands that police have Adderley’s boyfriend in custody and that he was the one to lead police to the body which was located 1,200 feet behind an abandoned house.
The Journal also understands that the grave was about four feet deep.
Sources also confirmed that the scene was so gruesome that it left officers on the scene speechless.
A number of Adderley’s family members gathered at the scene late Sunday and were visibly shaken up and overcome by grief.
A man, who was identified as her brother Chris, had to be restrained by family members once he got to the scene.
“Let me just see my sister,” he screamed as tears streamed down his face.
“I hope that ain’t my sister. I want to see my sister. Let me see my sister.”
While they declined to talk to the Journal, a family friend said the family “knows” the body belongs to Adderley, who has a four-year-old daughter.
